Behind the Stories

Debrianna Obara Headshot B&W_edited.jpg
Honored that her debut novel, BLOK 42 was a finalist for Best New Fiction 2024 by American Fiction Awards and a finalist for Best Historical Fiction 2024 by Storytrade Book Awards, Debrianna is excited to pursue her lifelong passion as a full-time author.

She was born in New York, USA as the middle daughter of Polish immigrants and since a young age, was a voracious reader. Her favorite genres growing up were Historical Fiction, Literary Fiction, and Romance and she also loved to write. With that passion for the written word, she went to the University of Florida to earn a degree in journalism, with a minor in Slavistics.

From there, she worked in advertising, media, and marketing. Through it all, she has been writing fiction and nonfiction for the last 20+ years.

Writing historical fiction is a deeply personal experience for me. It gives me a chance to immerse myself in both the world I created and a world I have never lived in. Through those worlds, I can bring forth my characters in ways that feel raw and immediate. My first book is a love letter to the people and events that shaped Poland, but also a chance to peel back the layers and reveal details that were previously hidden. I also endeavored to put a female perspective on the trials and tribulations of war, which is often relegated or overlooked by the history books.
